Thesis title: The childtown “Agios Dimitrios” Oreokastrou (1958-2003): museological planning of an exhibition.

The present thesis is divided in four parts (chapters), including as both the theoretical and practical part of the study. The contents of each chapter, in a way, follow the course of the research that was made within the boundaries of the paper.

The first chapter, is the starting point, the infancy of the “discussion”, for Frederica’s institutions, and their accession to a wider social, political and historical frame. Emphasizing on the topic about the children, the study focuses on how this was treated during the civil war. The chapter concludes to the establishing of the childtowns. Following there’s a presentation of various aspects of daily life in these institutions, about the education, training and daily routine of the children, within the nationalist ideology. Terminally, the chapter is about the fate of these childtowns after the civil war. This way is performed the transition to the next chapter.

On the second chapter, the study focus on the childtown “Agios Dimitrios” Oreokastrou, for which follows the museological planning. At this point, the history of the childtown is described, through presenting the aspects of children’s daily routine. The items of the exhibition can thus join a wider frame in which they were used.

The third and final chapter of the study, is the practical. Here the museological planning of the exhibition for the childtown “Agios Dimitrios” is implemented. This chapter is divided in two parts. The first is about the museological programming which is preceding the planning of an exhibition, and takes account of all factors and restrictions when implementing an exhibition. Factors like the exhibition space, the exhibits, the visitors and the developer of this project where taken in consideration and some specifications where raised about the forthcoming exhibition.

Finally, the second part of the chapter is the museological planning. It constitutes the final product of the preceding procedure. Here the main museological idea is formulated and the museological reasoning is described through the analysis of the exhibitions modules content and thus the genre and extent of the scripts is formulated.
