Thesis title: Gender representations in archaeological exhibitions; the Archaeological Museums of Thessaloniki and of Pella

The aim of the present dissertation is the description of the relation between the museological practice in the Greek archaeological museums and the theoretical tradition of Greek archaeology. The discussion of this issue is holding through the representations of gender in the permanent exhibitions of two archaeological museums, the archaeological museum of Thessaloniki and the archaeological museum of Pella. In the first part we present aspects of the history of archaeology and the history of museums, a brief history of the feminist movements and a short consideration of the archaeological representations. In the second part we examine in detail the representations of women in the archaeological museum of Thessaloniki and the archaeological museum of Pella. In the third part we present the conclusions based on our observations on the two different archaeological exhibitions.
