Within the frame of the Lifelong Learning Courses of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for the academic year 2016-17, and the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, a further education program designed for young unemployed graduates over the age of 25, was organized by the school, titled ‘Cultural Tourism’.

The program aims to initiate participants into organizing and designing practices found in the area of cultural tourism.  Cultural tourism constitutes a very particular, fast developing in the international market, form of tourism, also greatly linked, both directly and indirectly, to other forms of unaccustomed and alternative tourism. Attending the program, participants come to acquire all necessary theoretical and applied methodological tools which ultimately will enable them designing and organizing cultural acts, exploiting the symbolic capital contained in the area of culture, its products and various aspects (cultural walks, festivals, international art fairs, etc )

The Program lasts 25 hours and includes the following units:

  1. Culture and Tourist Development
  2. Culture, tourism and local growth
  3. Museum marketing strategies for the development of Greek destinations
  4. Tourist psychology/the audience and ways to attract them/organizing trips and other acts
  5. Interpreting cultural heritage: central museological idea and museological concept, the Venizelou str. monuments case
  6. Managing and operating culture in contemporary economic environments. Programming, designing, communicating and realizing cultural projects/works

-cultural walks
