Thessis title: Federici cardinalis Borromaei archiepisc. Mediolani Musaeum: In research of the guide of the first exhibition of Ambrosian Art Gallery

Cardinal Federico Borromeo archbishop of Milan, in 1625s, published a book entitled Federici cardinalis Borromaei archiepisc. Mediolani Musaeum. In this book he described works of art which he personally had chosen and collected for the first exhibition of the Ambrosian Art Gallery (Pinacoteca Ambrosiana). In the first part of this dissertation, I define the collecting mechanisms and the periods of collecting activity of the cardinal, from the mid-16th until the first quarter of the 17th century. Further, in the second part, I outline the notion of the first public of the Gallery, along the notion of the latent central conceptual museological idea and design of the exhibition, and its sections, of the same collection. Inconclusion, during the third part, I try to see the grammatological accession of the book in question as an exhibition guide – as the product of the joining of ekphrases and city guides.
